Permissions: Creating and managing overrides requires an Admin or Manager role.
An override allows an admin or manager to manually assign a specific team member as on-call for a defined time window, temporarily superseding the standard rotation. Overrides are useful for planned absences, holidays, or any situation where the scheduled on-call member needs to be covered.
The schedule detail page displays three distinct rows to make the effect of overrides transparent:
- Rotation — The base on-call rotation as originally configured.
- Overrides — Any manually created override blocks layered on top of the rotation.
- Final Schedule — The effective on-call assignment for each time window, reflecting the rotation with all overrides applied.
Creating an Override
- Navigate to OnCall → Schedules and open the schedule you want to modify.
- In the Overrides row, click Create Override.
- In the Create Override modal, fill in the following fields:
- Participant — Select the team member who will cover the override shift.
- Start Date — The date the override begins.
- Start Time — The time the override begins.
- End Date — The date the override ends.
- End Time — The time the override ends.
- Click Create to save the override.
The override block will appear in the Overrides row, and the Final Schedule row will update immediately to reflect the change for the affected time window.
Tip: Always review the Final Schedule row after creating an override to confirm the effective on-call assignment looks correct across the full affected period.
Editing an Existing Override
- Open the schedule detail page and locate the override block in the Overrides row.
- Click directly on the override block to open it for editing.
- Adjust the Participant, Start Date, Start Time, End Date, or End Time as needed.
- Save your changes. The Final Schedule row will update to reflect the revised override.
